Thanks to some fine-ish work on The Untitled Car Show and some emails, Toyota will be tossing me the key fob to a 2016 Avalon Limited Hybrid around this time next week!

(Same color and options as below)

Kinja'd!!!

Plan include:

A zillion trips around town for work

About 400 miles of freeway driving

Some “Can it Baby?”

A bit of “Can it IKEA?”

An Airport drop-off

A “Mom look at my cool car!” Lunch date

And a trip to watch Indycar at Sonoma (with Press Passes)

Anything in particular you want to see or hear about? Obviously Jalopnik already did the track thing, so I don’t have to pretend it’s a “HURRRR DRIVERS CAR” and can just relax for the most part.

Are you going to the race? Do you fancy an Oppo meetup?

I’d like to hear about the interior material quality. I had an XLE as a rental recently and was pretty unimpressed with the seats and dash/door panel quality. I'm wondering if the Limted is better.

how far can you jump it.... or maybe that should be left to rental cars

I'm gonna give a hard no on this one

Having sat in a Limited while getting my oil changed (Ha, I bet you’re regretting offering that unlimited package for $300 230k miles ago, huh?) I’m guessing the interiors are the same.

I already know I’m gonna hate the “Capacitive touch dash buttons”; I’ll take normal ones thanks.

The seats can’t be worse than the ones in the Camry, which after a long day of driving managed to hurt my back, but also had the horizontal stitching digging into my posterior.

I think you gain a lot of that stuff back by spending the extra $4k (a 10% markup) and getting the Lexus ES instead. I think remaining competitive in cost has forced Toyota to lower the quality of the at one time legendary fit and finish. $40k for a LWB Camry Hybrid with better seats and a quieter ride sounds like a reasonable price to me. The V6 starts at $33-ish; by the time you've spec-d a Camry that high you may as well go for the larger size

Also worth noting that many are built here in Kentucky as opposed to Japan (if you buy into that sort of thinking regarding quality)

Is it worth the price premium over a high end Camry? That’s always been my biggest question about the Avalon, as good as it is.

Tired. Jalopnik already did it.

That’s my question too.

Of course, they went ahead and gave a total novice the $43k Limited one instead of an XLE, so hopefully the comparison isn’t too different?

By the way, do you have an extra space for content in a couple weeks? I might know a guy..

How low can you get the fuel economy estimate, while driving within the limits of how normal traffic does things? (So, drive hard, but not assholishly.)

How high can you get the fuel economy estimate, while driving within the limits of how normal traffic does things? (So, drive gently, anticipating lights, but without impeding traffic.)

Dealer: What do you need?

Buyer: I want a car that makes me forget I’m in it. It should be less a car and more like a fast, bland and forgettable chair.

Dealer: Say no more.

This is a good question. I will do this. FOR YOU.

Is there anything wrong with that?

Don’t get me wrong, sports cars are great, but when I’m traveling or communizing I just want somewhere comfy to sit. Is that too much to ask for?

Press cars are always fully loaded, just to impress you as much as possible. I was surprised the Focus ST I had a few weeks back didn’t have a sunroof. It had everything else.

I might know someplace a guy could post a few thoughts on a car...

I’ll be at the race. But going with the family. That means bringing the Family Truckster and no M3 or GT3. Super excited to see World Challenge. Sonoma is such an unforgiving track, yet always has really good racing.
